YMCA Annual Campaign

We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support we have received this year. Your gifts of; time, kindness, and monetary donations all contribute to creating a strong community aligning with the core values of the Y. The need for financial aid in our community has been steadily increasing. While monthly membership dues and program fees cover our daily operating expenses, your donation ensures that everyone can access Y programs and services without being turned away because of an inability to pay. Your donation is tax deductible, and as always, 100% of all donations will go directly to help the Y provide those in need with memberships and services that are critical to their Health, supply the means for Youth Development, and foster Social Responsibility.

As we approach the holiday season, we need your help to ensure we can continue transforming lives. No gift is too small and your contribution is greatly appreciated. Please give today, and let’s make our community a better place for all.

YMCA OF HAGERSTOWN “HERITAGE CLUB”

The YMCA of Hagerstown Heritage Club is a group of generous individuals or families who have remembered the YMCA in their estate plans.

The Club is a means of keeping donors informed on the activities of the YMCA and encourages participation in the Endowment Program. In 2003, the Endowment left by members was formally named the “Brother” Harry Wolfe Youth Endowment in honor of Mr. Wolfe as the first Youth Director at the Hagerstown YMCA.

Consider Becoming a Member of the “Heritage Club”… Members of the “Heritage Club” have made a commitment to the long-term needs of the YMCA by one of the following methods:

  • Making a gift to the endowment of $5,000.
  • Acknowledgement of the YMCA in your will.
  • Establishment of a trust in favor of the YMCA.

If you are interested in learning more about the YMCA Heritage Club, contact Daria Putnam-Steinhardt at 301-739-3990 ex.4206.

David L. Nycum Memorial Fund

David Nycum was an active member of the YMCA of Hagerstown for most of his adult life. Among other pursuits, he played in a men’s basketball league, played competitive table tennis and racquetball, and began his love of pickleball at the Y. He also served on the committee to oversee the installation of the Y’s outdoor pickleball courts. David became a competitive pickleball player and certified coach and medaled in numerous tournaments, twice qualifying for the National Senior Olympics.

Tragically, David collapsed on July 14, 2020, at the age of 63 and passed away on July 26. His presence is greatly missed by all who knew him. Memorial donations in his name led to the first annual David L. Nycum Memorial Pickleball Tournament, held at the YMCA in 2021.

David L. Nycum Memorial Scholarship

The David L. Nycum Memorial Scholarship of $1,000.00 is awarded to graduating seniors affiliated with the YMCA of Hagerstown in some capacity—as employees, as part of a team or program, or as participants in a Y class or activity.

The committee also welcomes your interest in becoming a sponsor of this tournament in order to fund additional yearly scholarships. This year’s tournament will be held September 12th – 14th, 2025.

Peyton Swope Memorial Fund

The Peyton Swope Memorial Fund supports the HAGY Gators Swim Team and a scholarship in memory of our teammate, Peyton RayAnn Swope, who passed away in June 2018 at the age of 13 in a tragic car accident while traveling to a swim meet. Peyton was a passionate swimmer and a loving friend to all, and her presence is greatly missed. The HAGY Gators Swim Team, along with Peyton’s family, want to continue to honor her memory.
